Rice Meals

Rice meals are cheap and easy to make. My family loves them, in the right combinations.

The first step in a rice meal is to actually get the rice on the stove. It is cooked separately from the rest of the ingredients.

Then, warm a fry pan and pick and choose what you would like to cook up from your pantry or refrigerator. I like to keep this quick and simple, using previously cooked meats as well as some vegetables.

Here are some combinations that you may enjoy. Simply put everything in the fry pan with some butter and warm. You will top the rice with the mixture that you choose.

  • Ground beef, corn and peas.
  • Turkey, carrots and broccoli.
  • Chicken, corn and carrots.

Let us know about your rice meal creations in the comments. Thank you.

  1. Ooh here we go! I love rice meals. I even have a rice cooker!

    - Chicken with tomato sauce, chipotle peppers in adobo (look in your Hispanic section), onions, and whatever other vegetables look good

    - Chicken marsala: Chicken with mushrooms, onions, beef broth, and wine if you have some on hand

    - Stir fry: Leftover protein (beef, chicken, shrimp) and vgetables with soy sauce and a pinch of brown sugar

    • Thanks for the ideas! I think I’ll try the stir fry the next time I make rice. Last night, I made a cheap, simple rice dish: Rice with corn and butter. Yum!
