Gourds

Placemats add a decorative touch to any holiday table, as well as to every day table settings. Elegant dinner parties just wouldn’t be the same without them, and neither would more laid back get togethers. Placemats can be easily made or decorated with minimal effort and time, and add a certain charm to the decor.

Materials:

mini gourds, cut in half – stem left on, seeds removed

placemats, premade or homemade (Choose an off white color)

parchment paper

fabric paints: yellow and green

  1. Wash and dry the placemats. Iron if needed.
  2. Put paints on parchment paper squares.
  3. Use the gourd halves as stamps, dipping them into the paint and then pressing them onto the placemats.
  4. Allow to dry thoroughly before using.

Tips:

  • Use the freshest gourds possible.
  • Use these placemats for every day table settings, or for holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving.
  • These can also be used for Samhain.
  • Use cotton fabric.
  • This craft is easy for children to help with.
  • Grow gourds in your garden to save money.
