Some of the items you purchase to stock your pantry with can be found on sale. Others might be found on clearance carts and racks. For the ultimate savings, you can combine these items with coupons.
Say there are pizza pockets on clearance, 2 per box at 10 for $10.00. You have 10 coupons for 25 off a box of pizza pockets. You will pay only .75 per box, or $7.50 for 10 boxes. If you also have a store coupon $2.00 off any purchase that you received at checkout during your last shopping trip, then you will pay only $5.50 for the 10 boxes. That is only .55 per box.
Combining coupons with sales and clearance items will save you a good amount of money on your food purchases. Any chance to save money is good. I often save coupons for items that I would never purchase due to cost or another reason. Often, even with a coupon, these items are simply not the most affordable choices. However, if I am lucky enough to find them on clearance I can snatch them up.
NOTE: There are often soft drinks, teas and waters piled in clearance carts at one of the stores local to me. If I had a child on a sports team, and was responsible for picking up beverages for them once or twice during the season, I would purchases a variety of these. The beverages are often 4 for $1.00.
ACTION STEPS:
-
Clip coupons and organize them so you know exactly where each coupon is located.
-
Go through the sales paper and match sales to coupons you have available. Make a list.
-
Bring all the coupons shopping with you, whether you expect to use them or not. You never know what in-store sales you may find, or what clearance items may be available.
-
Calculate how much you saved during the shopping trip.
